OLI BREMERICH is what BONIFATIUS was for the catholics: a missionary. something like a missionary for all those guys in the sticks around ILLINGEN, SAARLAND, germany, who do not know what good denim and boots mean. ILLINGEN? where the f*** is ILLINGEN? okay, found it on the map: it is a small village 20 km in the north of SAARBRUECKEN just a spy away from the french border in the west of germany. it is really small with around 16.800 people who live there. and one of them is OLI. he runs the shop i do not know, but i think in third generation. the store was founded in 1934! BREMERICH JEANS sells japanese denim, american workwear, heavy boots and all the other stuff we like. in ILLINGEN?, you may ask – yes indeed, and it works! so it will get exciting visiting his 8TH “MAENNERABEND” tonight. a lot of clients and friends were invited and the guys from EAT DUST, PASSIONFRANCE®, RED WING SHOES, THE ONE GOODS and ME. my copywriter PETER will join the event too. i think it will be a relaxed evening with good talks, drinks and typical “MAENNERABEND” food. more to post the next days. the EAT DUST STUFF for today came on time with a special personal deliviery some days ago; check the video below. vid | BREMERICH JEANS || pics | LTG

he guys save this date! i know that some highlights are waiting for you at the 30th of november. stay tuned, next weekend you will know more than just the date. time is running. when KAMI opened the B-74 five years ago i did a story about it in german R'n'R magazine #01 DYNAMITE!. at this time i was one of the chief editors and the art director of the mag. this is really fucking 5 years ago. when he celebrated the 2nd birthday of his shop i was there and met DIRK THOMAS c/o MERZ B. SCHWANEN for the first time. he customized me a MASTER SMITH shirt with stamps. DIRK, i still got it! the party was great, nice to be again at B-74 for another birthday party. pics | LTG

ABOUT A MOLE CALLED “GRABOWSKI”, AN IRISH SETTER BOOT AND A HAPPY END
got this vintage children's book from my copywriter PETER Z. to take a look at it. it is from 1972 and it is really amazing that one of the illustrated workers is wearing a perfect rugged outfit. really funny. the story that isn't everything but funny is about a mole who's name is GRABOWSKI. there was the plan to build up a high-rise building estate. when the workers began their work the catastrophe for the mole began. the machines and the workers attacked and tried to catch him. terrible and really thrilling drawn and written. but the story comes to a happy end: the mole GRABOWSKI escaped and found a meadow like a paradies. the story is more than 40 years ol, it is from the time when the people began thinking over their environment and to save nature. pics | LTG || Der Maulwurf Grabowski by Luis Murschetz

BOOT OF THE DAY | #187 | DANNER LIGHT III LOW CUT BROWN/KHAKI
the CLASSIC DANNER LIGHT – check LTG SHOE & BOOT COLLECTION #15 from august 2012 – is my favorite hiking boot. i own this boot since 5 years and i do not only love the comfort but the old school look too. yesterday i found a low cut version of my DANNER LIGHT @ THREE WOOD, japan, – wonderful. this hiking “shoe“ named DANNER LIGHT III LOW is available in three color ways. the III LOW features the same benefits as the boot: full-grain, leather upper, PLUS 100% waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX®, vibram KLETTERLIFT sole, brass eyelets and hooks, nylon laces gold/tan colored, cushioned footbed, leather welt, made in the USA. seems to be again a japan special.

THE BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIFE | PassionFrance®
last week i went to WOLFGANG c/o PassionFrance with UWE E. MAIER and OLLI THE BARBER to eat one of the best meals i was served this year: a COC AU RIESLING. damn perfect – the chicken were so good. we have had a wonderful evening with a lot of talking, best food and vine. before visiting WOLFGANG i knew that i want to take a BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIFE with me home. so i did: a wonderful one with a cow horn and really nice textures. i love this extraordinary knife style so much. this BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIVE comes from the basque country, spain, and the french provinces which are near the pyrenees. the blade has its origin in the orient because the crusaders brought it to spain and the south of france when thy came back and settled down. today the knives are used by farmer and shepherds. especially tobacco grower around the BERGERAC region where tobacco is cultivated for generations like to use this BASQUE-YATAGAN KNIVE. if tobacco is reaped a jellylike juice is getting out of the plants which makes it difficult to hold the knife. so the rivets and rosettes help to get the perfect grip and developed over the years to a decorative element. the knife i bought has a 12 cm blade, the holder is made of cow horn, blade and back of the holder are needle etched. pics | LTG

HANDCRAFTED BAG #214 BY ATELIER DE L'ARMÉE
some weeks ago i got this BAG214 from ATELIER DE L'ARMÉE. it is wonderful, so practical. just one zip and you get to all the things you carry with you. as a business bag i prefer my FILSON PADDED COMPUTER BAG, but for city trips or just visiting a friend it is not so practical, too heavy, to big. the 214 has a lot of features. outside it is made of deadstock cowhide leather and dutch army woodland camouflage battleshirt fabric. one bag inside is made of japanese selvage denim, an iphone bag is made of cowhide leather and the lining is made of dutch army thermo pant and rain poncho. the handles and the strap are made of swiss army rifle slings. these must be really vintage: the smell strong. but it gets better from week to week. the tote bag is completely made by hand in amsterdam, netherlands, and can be made to order. it takes about 4 to 6 weeks between purchase and delivery. take a look @ the video where you will meet ELZA WANDLER and JOOST DOESWIJK who are ATELIER DE L'ARMÉE. pics | LTG || vid | ATELIER DE L'ARMÉE

RED WING SHOES | CUSTOMIZED POSTMAN #101
yes, yes, yes – this is it! i love the #101 – the POSTMAN. my first pair was a present from KLAUS c/o VOLLS.DE. i know this post is something special for shoe nerds ... but sorry, this is a RED WING SHOE for real RED WING LOVERS and not for fashion pussies! and the best: the customized #101 means for me one step further. hm, what do you think? would you prefer the one with the original cushion sole or the customized #101 one with the nitrile black cork sole, you may know f.ex. from RED WING'S black IRON RANGER #8114? i love the #101 look with this heel construction. it reminds me a classic U.S. navy officer shoe. but i like both and i won't give one of them away because for me they are different shoes. KAMI c/o RED WING SHOE STORE FRANKFURT/GERMANY made the customized #101 for me. i can't remember if the first miles with the original #101 hurt so much as they do with the customized one. damn. everyday i wear them just a few hours indoor and i am happy to get them off. but ... it's okay. the day will come when they got broken – this shoe is worth the trouble! pics | LTG

THE CORSE VENDETTA KNIFE | PassionFrance®
this is the first knife i bought from WOLFGANG c/o PassionFrance® some time ago: a CORSE VENDETTA. with this knife my passion for french knives started. this one is special because of its limited design: the three crosses are showing a triangle. it was the last of this series. the „normal“ version of this VENDETTA with an elegant handle of bones has the crosses set in a straight line. it is told that the roots of this knife lie in the genoa daggers, but not for sure. but for sure is, that this knife wasn't use for working in the garden but for fighting. i don't know if the name comes from the origin meaning of VENDETTA which stands for blood venegance - i have to ask WOLFGANG. i love the really nice so called TAILE DE GUÊPE, the wasp waist. isn't that a beautiful knife? pics | LTG

DARMSTADT II DER ANDERE BLICK | LTG CO AUTHOR FOR PHOTOBOOK BY CHRISTIAN GRAU & ANDRÉ RISTO
i would be a lie if i would say that i am not a bit proud of being co author of photobook DARMSTADT II DER ANDERE BLICK. as the title tells you this is the second DARMSTADT book of photographer CHRISTIAN GRAU and pilot ANDRÉ RISTO. all pics show DARMSTADT my hometown city from the view of a plane. and believe me this is great: it is as the german booktitle says THE OTHER VIEW. and the guys are really crazy, because sometimes they went down less than 300m to get the best view for the perfect shot. a flying altitude that is absolutely forbidden over cities ... okay. yesterday evening there was a vernissage for an exhibition at the biggest bank in DARMSTADT where both show some highlights of the new book and i got my first copy because of writing some lines beside my most beloved pic: HERRENGARTEN, DARMSTADT'S central park ... every author should write something about DARMSTADT. i did a comparision between FULDA, the city i was born, the city i still feel at home too because of my parents and my brother and his family, friends and a lot of memories from the past and DARMSTADT, the city i live meanwhile since 1988, damn, for 26 years. a lot of people told me that they like the comparision because you have to think a bit before understanding what is meant. and so i am really angry about the guy who did the english translation - he did not understand what i was writing. blockhead, this was the last time, i give something i wrote without an approval to print. the resume: FULDA | DARMSTADT ... it is like it is: HOME! pics | LTG
sorry, but this is written bullshit: this translation has absolutely nothing to do with the lines i wrote in german ...

Watches with History – History 1: This book documents the stories of three german “Kampfschwimmer” units, their training in Italy and northern Germany, their missions at the eastern front in the last weeks of the 2nd world war, followed by the story of the commander of the italian submarine “Ambra” who delivered SLC and Gamma units to their target zones at the harbours of northern Africa. These four personal stories are building the columns of moving chapters together with detailed views on their watches, using latest extracts of the authors’ database of today existing vintage Panerai watches. The result of years of intensive research, diary extracts, interviews with the veterans, combined with more than 250 historical photos, maps, documents from allied secret services and 30 illustrations are writing Panerai’s unique history. 26 x 26 cm, 420 pages, trilingual (= german, italian and english language in one book), hardback jacket, slipcase.
Watches with History – History 2: History2 continues where History1 ends - the 2nd volume documents five previously unreleased stories of frogmen units of the 2nd world war. Their personal stories are building the columns of five moving chapters together with detailed views on their watches and instruments, using the latest extracts from the authors’ database of today existing vintage Panerai watches. Years of intensive research, diary extracts, interviews with the veterans, combined with more than 290 historical photos, maps, documents from allied secret services and illustrations are writing Panerai’s unique history, having been a supplier for an essential tool in dangerous underwater missions during the 2nd world war. 26 x 26 cm, 480 pages, trilingual (= german, italian and english language in one book), hardback jacket, slipcase. all pics by VOLKER WIEGMANN

SHWOOD WOODEN EYEWEAR @ KLAR DARMSTADT, GERMANY
what a surprise when AKRAM owner of KLAR in darmstadt, germany, called me up that he got his first delivery from SHWOOD. i like these wooden frames handmade in portland, usa, from the first moment on i saw them. so yesterday i went to KLAR and checked the frames. it was the first time i could try and touch them – lightweight and best handmade stuff: amazing. and the best is, that it is possible to put optical glasses into the frames up to 4 diopter. very nice the PENDLETON x SHWOOD collaboration frame with this special spectacle case. beside AKRAM did a really nice decoration of his shop window: woooooooood. tasty! hope the folks here will honor AKRAM's courage to sell SHWOOD downtown darmstadt. i checked the retailer list at shwood's website and except KLAR there are just two shops in berlin selling SHWOOD in germany. pics | LTG

10 MUST-HAVE-X-MAS-PRESENTS | #02 | RANDOLPH ENGINEERING SUNGLASSES
an absolute american classic. love my sunglasses especially the combination of the golden frame with brown glasses. and these are optical ones – perfect fit, perfect watch. RANDOLPH ENGINEERING was founded 1972: “In the late 1970′s Randolph Engineering started manufacturing Mil-Spec Aviator sunglasses for the United States Air Force as a subcontractor producing in excess of 200, 000 sunglasses annually. Led by Jan’s sons, Randolph won the government bid to become the prime contractor in 1982. By the late 1980′s Randolph had expanded into the commercial sunglass market after civilians learned about the quality of its sunglasses and prescription frames through military channels. Today Randolph remains an iconic brand accelerated by a growing demand for genuine, well-made products with a strong American heritage. Tried and true manufacturing methods are maintained using the machinery and tooling created by the founders. Randolph Engineering, Inc. is still owned and operated by three generations of the Waszkiewicz and Zaleski families along with a highly skilled and dedicated American workforce.” a great product for an affordable price with a lot of different frames and colored glasses. AKRAM owner of KLAR here downtown darmstadt, sold me a classic silver colored frame with optical glasses - no sunglasses, but for daily use. AKRAM has a lot of different models for sale. the price range is from 139,– € up to 196,– € for gunmetal, silver, matte black and gold frames. it depends on the glasses if they are polarized or not. the more expensive ones are made of synthetic the cheaper ones of glass. for sure these glasses don't just look american, they are made in the USA. you all know the other “wish to be american brand” that is meanwhile made in italy. i prefer the american original. pics | KLAR & LTG

10 MUST-HAVE-X-MAS-PRESENTS | #03 | FRAGRANCE MONOCLE SCENT THREE: SUGI BY COMME DES GARÇONS
for me the MONOCLE series from CDG is one of my absolute favorites since years. last week the third fragrance was launched: SUGI. before there was HINOKI and LAUREL. SUGI's top note is cypress and an intensive but so nice pepper smell. the heart note is of iris and virginia cedarwood while the base note is of pine and vetiver. a distinctive fragrance far away from mainstream. this is what my favorite fragrance dealer AUS-LIEBE-ZUM-DUFT writes about: “Created in Paris by Comme des Garçons head perfumer Antoine Maisondieu the light, energising and sophisticated fragrance is inspired by the sugi – also known as the Japanese cedar – which is a popular ornamental plant in Japan. Sugi is a refreshing unisex fragrance, beginning with top notes of Mediterranean cypress and pepper from Madagascar, followed by iris from Florence and cedar from Virginia, finishing with notes of pine and Haitian vetiver. “We’ve been working with Comme des Garçons for four years on Sugi and wanted it to bring a new dimension to our fragrance range,” says Monocle editor in chief Tyler Brûle. “Sugi sits seamlessly alongside Hinoki and Laurel as a distinctive Monocle scent but brings an added clean, fresh and delicate appeal.“ From the amazing yellow box, to the graphic design, every element of Sugi’s packaging was created by Monocle creative director Richard Spencer Powell and his London design team to reflect the sophisiticated and intelligent values of both magazine and Comme des Garçons. The fragrance is presented in a bold yellow matte-glass bottle with similarly distinctive yellow packaging, again featuring Monocle’s highly recognizable font and design. © First in Fragrance (p/sc)”. pics | LTG

BUTTS AND SHOULDERS | FIRST EDITION OF 50 BAGS IS LAUNCHED
a week ago i got a mail from my friend WOUTER the guy behind LONG JOHN in which he wrote about a new brand named BUTTS AND SHOULDERS. WOUTER created BAS in collabaration with friends which share the same authentic passion he does. together they had the idea to create the ultimate travel bag. and now you can see the result after one year testing. 50 bags were made in the first run. here some more facts WOUTER told me: “Our Butts and Shoulders bag is made of 100% natural vegetable leather. We call it virgin leather. The moment you unpack it, you are starting the unique ageing process. By using it, touching it and even by exposing it to daylight the looks of this unique bag will change. The more you will use it, the more beautifull it gets. Like a true friendship that will grow over time., Butts and Shoulders will be your buddy for the rest of your life. Every bag will be delivered with a leather certificate with the unique bag number. The certificate reminds you to the start of the ‘virgin’ leather and it’s also the testimony of the registered original. The bag is 100% made in Holland.” in the following you can find some more facts with the pics. it is an exciting project and i am really interesting what will happen next. you can get this unique bag with your personal choice of the limited number you want to get @ the BUTTS AND SHOULDERS online shop. pics | BUTT AND SHOULDERS
